At The Goonj Foundation, we believe in the power of communities to drive meaningful change. For over 25 years, Goonj has been at the forefront of addressing basic needs and empowering marginalized communities across India. As we look ahead to 2025, our vision is clear: to amplify Goonj’s impact and ensure its transformative model reaches its fullest potential, both in India and globally.
The Goonj Foundation exists to help Goonj scale its innovative approach to development—one that prioritizes dignity, sustainability, and community participation. We’re not just addressing immediate needs; we’re rethinking how social impact is done, creating solutions that are equitable, replicable, and rooted in the lived realities of people on the ground.
To achieve this, we’ve identified four key focus areas that will guide our efforts:
1. Capacity Building
Strong foundations lead to lasting impact. We’re investing in Goonj’s operational and strategic capacity to expand its reach and deepen its impact in rural and urban communities across India.
2. Knowledge and Research
The wealth of experience Goonj has gained over decades needs to be documented, studied, and shared. Our aim is to establish a Knowledge Center to research, innovate, and create a repository of insights that can inspire action and replication worldwide.
3. Convenings and Thought Leadership
Goonj’s philosophy of dignity-driven development deserves a global stage. We aim to engage with international forums like the UN General Assembly, COP, and the World Economic Forum to share Goonj’s story and influence the broader development narrative.
4. Global Implementation Pilots
The principles that have worked in India can be adapted and implemented globally. We’re supporting pilot projects in countries like Malaysia to test and refine Goonj’s model in diverse contexts.
